Benjamin Yeboah Sekyere, Member of Parliament for Tano South, has dismissed claims by the NDC that the government had awarded some road contracts to a Chinese contractor.
This comes after the Ahafo branch of the leading opposition party questioned the rationale behind the government’s decision to re-award the rehabilitation of the Bechem-Techimantia-Derma-Asuoso road to a Chinese contractor.
The Regional NDC organizer, Charles Asiedu on February 5, this year accused the government of ordering the contractor on the project, Alhaji PMC, to stop work on assumption of power in 2016.
Responding to the allegation, Mr Sekyere, who is also the Deputy Ahafo Regional Minister indicated that the NDC as a party was only interested in peddling lies. He explained that when he assumed office as MP ‘’there was not a single machine on the road to show it was under construction.
If the contract was indeed awarded to Alhaji PMC, nothing should have stopped him from working since it was an agreement between his company and the Government of Ghana’’. Mr.Sekyere added that the NDC on realizing that it was going to lose the elections in 2016 intentionally told the constituents it had awarded the road to a contractor to begin construction.
He said the project was under the cocoa roads and had been awarded to two contractors, Anarmi Construction Limited and OBJ Company Limited, who are to work on the Derma-Techimantia stretch. The minister advised the NDC to get their facts right before making any allegations.
