Appointment of slain MP’s wife Constitutional-Lawyer Tuah Yeboah

President for the Bono Regional Ghana Bar Association (GBA) and Member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Campaign Team, Lawyer Alfred Tuah Yeboah has said, his party’s decision to appoint Mrs Ophelia Hayford, widow of the slain Member of Parliament for Mfantsiman is constitutional.

The MP Hon. Ekow Quansah Hayford was shot on the Abeadze Dominase-Abeadze Duadzi-Mankessim road by unknown assailants believed to be on a robbery spree during the early hours of Friday, October 9, 2020. Mr. Hayford was said to be returning from a campaign trip when the incident occurred.

Those who were with him were also attacked by the alleged robbers.

Following the gruesome murder of the legislator, the NPP has settled on his wife, Ophelia Hayford to contest the Parliamentary seat on the party’s ticket which has sparked some criticisms from a section of Ghanaians.

Speaking on Ark in the Morning with Kwabena Obeng Akrofi today, the disappointed Parliamentary Aspirant for Sunyani East Alfred Tuah Yeboah said, the party’s constitution never use the “elect” to choose a Parliamentary Candidate but rather “select”,   which to him could be by appointment or election.

He stated that, the executives of the party have the power to decide which way to go, and looking at the circumstances now the party never erred in appointing the wife of the murdered MP.

He added that the woman being a widow has nothing to do with her new appointment as there is life to live after the death of her husband.
