Sunyani, Bono regional capital, is gradually losing its enviable tag as the cleanest city in the country, with its central business district clearly littered with refuse and gutters choked, a situation that has set some concerned residents to raise concerns.
A visit by Ark News to some parts of the Municipality showed serious sanitation challenges with refuse scattered all over, whilst the Assembly has not been seen taking any steps to rectify the situation.
Stephen Kwarteng, Assembly Member of Atoase Electoral Area, which has serious sanitation challenges blamed the Sunyani East Municipal Assembly for failing to provide waste bins for use by the people.
Meanwhile, Daniel Owusu Korkor, head of the sanitation department of the Assembly, has said the outfit was handicapped as ‘’some upper hands’’ have restricted its operations.
He did not disclose which ‘’upper hands’’ have restricted the department’s operations.
Ark in the Morning team however contacted a private waste collection agency within the Municipality that has been accused of dumping refuse indiscriminately in the city centre.
